Man, 20, arrested in fatal beating of man, 68, in Alphabet City
Police suspect a Manhattan man in the death of Ruan Wen Hui — they say he was killed during an attempted robbery Friday evening on E. Sixth St. near Avenue D.
Cops are grilling a suspect in the fatal beating of a 68-year-old man in Alphabet City, officials said Tuesday.
The 20-year-old Manhattan resident, whose name was not immediately released, was picked up on E. 14th St. near First Ave. about 1:45 a.m. after police received a tip through the Crime Stoppers line.
Charges were pending.
Police believe the assailant pounded Ruan Wen Hui during an attempted robbery on E. Sixth St. near Avenue D at 8:45 p.m. Friday.
The attacker approached Hui, yelled at him and then threw him against a wall before punching him repeatedly, officials said.
He also kicked Hui in the head after the victim fell to the ground, they said.
Hui, who lived in the area, was taken to Bellevue Hospital and succumbed to his injuries on Saturday.
