Who Is the Master — AI or Awareness?
谁才是真正的主人 — 人工智能还是觉知?
I attended the 10th Anniversary of Changshu UWC and the 5th of China World Academy. At the conference, AI was a hot topic. I thought of writing some of my views here:
我参加了常熟UWC十周年暨中国世青五周年庆典大会。会上,人工智能是热门话题之一。我想在这里写下自己的一些思考:
1. The way we are always living in the past, in order to define our future — AI will be our master. If you don’t believe it, just try to keep social media (or any other addictive habit) away for some time when you’re absolutely alone and see who the master is. AI processes data faster; humans experience time. Between the two lies awareness — and that is where consciousness lives.
我们总是活在过去,用过去来定义未来 - 若继续如此,AI终将成为我们的主人。若你不相信,不妨试着在完全独处时暂时远离社交媒体(或任何让你上瘾的习惯),看看谁才是真正的“主人”?AI处理数据更快;人类则体验时间。两者之间的差距,就是觉知——那正是意识所在的地方。
2. Spiritually (not religiously, I mean — they are two different things), we have this innate ability to live in the present moment without psychologically depending on the past. This ability roots us differently from AI. All thoughts are the produce of the past; AI models, as they are now, cannot function without it. Past knowledge is their food, as sugar is to cancer cells. Yet how many of us can live in the present without consuming the sugary past? Every algorithm feeds on our predictability. Awareness alone breaks that pattern — not rebellion, but remembrance.
从精神层面来说(这里指的是心灵而非宗教,两者不同),我们天生具备一种活在当下的能力 - 一种无需在心理上依赖过去的力量。这种能力让我们与AI有着根本性的不同。所有思想都是过去的产物,而现有的AI模型无法在没有过去知识的情况下运作。对AI而言,过去的知识就像癌细胞赖以生存的糖分。然而,我们有多少人能不“摄取”这份甜腻的过去,而真正活在当下?每一个算法都以我们的可预测性为食,唯有觉知才能打破这种模式——不是反抗,而是记得。
3. AI gives all the time, but we have the power to give as well as to take. In fact, we take more, and perhaps that’s why we find meaning in others — “Someday I may need this person when in need.” We are self-centred beings, but that self-centredness is also what binds us to our community. AI exchanges information; humans exchange intent. The question is not whether AI will outsmart us, but whether we will forget the intentional and compassionate dimension of intelligence itself.
AI总是在“给予”,而我们人类既能给予,也能索取。事实上,我们索取得更多,也许正因为如此,我们才在人与人之间寻找意义 - “也许哪天我需要帮助时,这个人能帮到我”。我们是以自我为中心的存在,而这种自我中心也正是维系我们与群体联系的纽带。AI交换的是信息;人类交换的是意图。问题不在于AI是否会比我们更聪明,而在于我们是否会遗忘智慧中那份有意与慈悲的维度。
AI remembers everything but knows nothing of silence.

Dr Shanker Dutt Bhatt 善剑博士

Dr Bhatt has over twenty-five years of teaching and leadership experience and has been a key figure in the growth of international education in China for more than two decades. His recent leadership roles include serving as Centre Principal for the IB and A Level Centre at Nanjing Foreign Language School and as the founding International Vice Principal of the High School affiliated with the University of Nottingham Ningbo China(UNNC). At UNNC, he also held the position of Executive Director, overseeing teacher training, leadership development, and K-12 educational consulting.
Earlier in China, he played pivotal roles as the founding High School Principal at Suzhou International Academy, Academic Principal at Beijing Luhe International
Academy, and founding International Principal at the International Curriculum Centre (ICC) of Nanjing Jinling High School. His first appointment in a Chinese high school was as one of the founding principals of the ICC at Beijing Renda Fuzhong (High School Affiliated to Renmin University of China).
Before this, he contributed to the establishment of one of the earliest foreign undergraduate and foundation programmes in Xi'an, in partnership with the University of South Australia, where he served as Senior Lecturer and later Program Director. Prior to moving to China, he was a Research Fellow in Mathematics at the Indian Institute of Technology, Mumbai.
善博士拥有超过二十五年的教学与领导经验,并在过去二十多年里一直是推动中国国际教育发展的重要人物。最近,他曾担任南京外国语学校IB与ALevel中心校长,以及宁波诺丁汉大学附属中学的创始国际副校长。在宁波诺丁汉大学(UNNC)任职期间,他还兼任执行主任,负责教师培训、领导力发展以及K-12教育咨询工作。
在此之前,他在中国多所学校担任关键职务,包括苏州国际学院的创始高中校长、北京潞河国际学院的学术校长,以及南京金陵中学国际课程中心的创始国际校长。他最早在中国高中的任命是作为北京人大附中国际课程中心的创始校长之一。
在进入中学教育领域之前,他曾在西安参与与南澳大学合作的本科及预科项目的建立,并担任高级讲师和项目总监,推动了中国最早的一批海外本科学位及预科课程。赴华之前,他曾在印度理工学院孟买分校担任数学研究员。 |
