Tavus公司近期宣布完成由CRV领投的4000万美元B轮融资。Tavus是一家AI研究实验室，专注于构建AI人类（AI humans），其核心目标是教会机器如何掌握人类的艺术，包括学习如何像人一样去看、去听、去回应、去行动，甚至在外观上看起来像人类。

Tavus的AI人类被称为“Tavus Pals”，它们可以进行视频通话、音频通话和文字交流，并且能够实时运行。它们具备“代办能力”（agentic），能够主动思考并执行任务。这些AI人类的独特之处在于它们能够看到并对用户的表情和情绪做出反应，营造出与同事或朋友交谈的真实感。例如，在演示中，一个AI助手可以查看日程并立即起草一封邮件通知会议延误。为了实现这种自然的交互，系统必须具备极低的延迟，因为人类感知的响应时间通常在200毫秒以内。

Tavus的应用场景非常广泛，目前主要分为三大类：学习与发展，涵盖培训和教育；医疗健康，包括病患入院处理、营养教练以及老年人陪伴等；以及市场推广，例如作为AI销售开发代表（SDR）、AI解决方案工程师或客户支持经理。

Tavus在AI领域的发展并非一帆风顺。在2021年夏季，即ChatGPT时代之前，Tavus最初的技术主要用于AI个性化视频，通过唇形同步填充技术（lip-sync infill）将一段视频内容个性化发送给成千上万的不同接收者。然而，在A轮融资之后，公司经历了一个关键的转折时刻，决定从一家AI销售公司转型为一家专注于基础模型开发的AI研究实验室，将技术作为API和SDK提供给客户，例如亚马逊、阿里巴巴和Better.com等。这一转变要求他们有勇气放弃当时的现有客户和快速增长的轨迹，专注于更大的愿景。

为了构建真正拟人化的AI，Tavus认识到仅有渲染能力（rendering）是不够的，还需要强大的感知能力（perception）。他们投入大量精力收集和分析细微的信号，比如用户微妙的眉毛抽动或轻微的微笑，并建模这些信号与用户言语和上下文之间的关系。Tavus将这一过程总结为创建人类模拟模型（human simulation models）。

公司目前正在推出面向普通消费者和专业用户的Tavus Pals，这被视为AI领域的“图形用户界面（GUI）”时刻，旨在解决“人类便利性问题”。未来的愿景是，每个人都将拥有一个像科幻小说中Cortana或Jarvis一样的AI医生、AI治疗师或AI助理。

在伦理方面，面对AI可能取代工作岗位的担忧，Tavus表示他们的目标不是取代人类，而是取代现有的一些糟糕的机器和流程，尤其是在缺乏替代方案的领域（例如大多数人无法负担或无法获得的治疗服务），提供80%到90%的高质量体验，从而将AI人类放置在原本是空白或体验不佳的领域。
