Sydney Orchestra Admits to Fakery

The managing director of the Sydney Symphony Orchestra admitted that the orchestra mimed its entire performance at the opening ceremonies of the Olympic Games in 2000 in Sydney, Australia, Agence France-Presse reported. The admission followed the recent news that the 9-year-old Lin Miaoke lip-synched a song at the opening ceremonies of the Beijing Olympics this month. The orchestra also admitted that some of the music was not even recorded by it, but by the rival Melbourne Symphony Orchestra. Libby Christie, the Sydney orchestra’s managing director since 2003, told the Fairfax newspapers of Australia that prerecorded music was used because Olympic organizers “wanted to leave nothing to chance.”
