本人大学里英美影视欣赏课的作业，影评“闻香识女人”，现在拿出来炒炒冷饭，稍后再写一点中文的体会，6年后的感触当有所不同，赫赫～～～


Should the Leader Be Human?
─ Comment on Scent of a Woman


The film reflected the American spirit and their ideal life: entering famous university, driving luxurious car, enjoying all the life could provide.  This is what an American pursues life-long.  Achieve it, he will be a successful man, if not he will be mediocre all life.

So it appeared too difficult for Charlie Simms when he went up to the crossroad that to sell somebody to buy his future or to be expelled by the principal.  On moral grounds, Chalie shouldn't sell anybody to buy his future; but for his own sake, he should tell the truth to gain the chance entering Havard.  Charlie had conscience, as he said, he chose the right path without any hesitation.

The principal said that Bell School was the "cradle for leaders", here is the question: should the leader be human at first?  If the answer is positive, a leader should be firstly faithful, honest and selfless at least won't sell anybody.  It seemed as if the principal thought personal future was much more important than faithfulness.

Charlie and George Willis Jr appointed not tell their parents about that.  Charlie kept his promise: he shouldered responsibility by himself and didn't even ask anybody for help.  However George backed out and hid in his big dad's pocket.  Compared with Charlie, the character George here was just a negative role, a coward or a clown, as to highlighted Charlie's sparkling merits.  George was afraid not only to be expelled but also to be revenged by the three schoolmates who played prank. Not having courage to face the principle committee, he used ambiguous words such as "the shape like…", "I'm not sure…".  But Charlie told the committee that he just "can't tell".  The blind Lieutenant Colonel saw Charlie's noble character what all the others didn't see.  

The film was an impact on the distorted moral value in America and sarcasm to the non-blind.  It raises a simple question: how to be a human?
