time, in a place  
) @3 B" n* y$ m; J4 zoverrun with  monkeys, a man appeared and announced to the 6 V( y5 c8 T( t" | 
villagers that he would buy monkeys for $10 each.  The  
  s5 G/ ^9 i( S/ ?9 U1 B; e. t- Vvillagers, seeing that there were many monkeys around, went out  
$ b/ Z; J' G8 w2 P% dto the forest, and started catching them. The man  
, h& O! H4 a$ O3 Z8 cbought thousands at $10 and as supply started to diminish, 9 D3 D) B4 G+ F7 @; ~2 ^ 
they became harder to catch, so the villagers stopped , j( u6 d7 s5 D8 E8 D% o( \ 
their effort.

' d  V! d% n+ d; Z3 X9 ?- q2 ?% ZThe man then 6 c. g; D/ t- c! k1 u 
announced that he would now pay $20 for each  one. This renewed : I0 ^1 q0 n2 t. M  E 
the efforts of the villagers and they started catching monkeys 9 j" B( R- s7 K3 R  z 
again.   But soon the supply diminished even further and 3 K9 B7 K; U# p# L+ j& S* s2 W 
they were ever harder to catch, so people started going back to + X3 r: b( w) v: b( s0 u 
their farms and forgot about monkey catching. The man increased his  
9 ^+ o6 n, n. j+ i- Eprice to $25 each and the supply of monkeys became so ! x" I: w0 h: ~' F: ~/ @4 h 
sparse that it was an effort to even see a monkey, much 5 [1 a5 l$ t8 P- o5 s- ~ 
less catch one.

5 J  m; Q2 h/ q; ^# [" SThe man now  
0 H& [* m2 X) S0 ?. Wannounced that he would buy monkeys for $50! However, since he had to  
% m+ C+ m4 Y' _5 ?1 @/ h* r7 ?8 ^go to the city on some business, his assistant would now buy on his : ?3 B2 S' d" h# o3 M/ A' ^ 
behalf. 0 ]+ {7 G- {. B: g# D

While the man  
  \# S. F  x* O4 r$ dwas away the assistant told the villagers. 'Look at all these monkeys  
4 [; J' C- [& d4 P* Hin the big cage that the man  has bought. I will sell them to , a: s% [8 x" e8 u' u0 l 
you at $35 each and when the man returns from the city, you can sell ' l9 O- I; g2 V& A4 [% _6 c6 w 
them to him for $50 each.' % R, {2 Q# E& H

The villagers  
- K. ]; d$ ~/ f2 y4 ?' T5 O4 y: trounded up all their savings and bought all the monkeys. They never  
" A: G6 t: B; fsaw the man nor his assistant again and once again there were monkeys 2 h: g0 e9 W2 c 
everywhere. ) `) W( w; G# h( f4 M
