A touching story! U must read!!!

This is really a great story!!

! H; Q* J, z# u% R5 f6 }! G3 R/ TOne day, when I was a freshman in high school,
5 a: D* S1 K1 D# _' z+ v' [$ l+ [' d$ T! o  d- f& J
I saw a kid from my class was walking home from school. : l- \( ^3 V9 T4 ?6 Z
9 ]" I3 V. b5 y  Z( e
His name was Kyle.
! ^$ ~0 ~2 F7 q; V1 \9 I  w" D; U) Y

5 y# h4 t0 ~, @6 n7 w: yIt looked like he was carrying all of his books. , _8 f2 U6 D) [, R, e
/ p1 L$ v( L8 z7 S1 l. A+ ^, \
" v: ~7 z" }4 Y' ^: O
I thought to myself, "Why would anyone bring home all his books on a Friday?
9 t! R+ T7 F$ ?/ _1 W( b  q! g1 A
He must really be a nerd." 1 ~& ]5 ]7 o- X# K& T% p5 {7 `- `

/ ~! r' y& N3 w, t% I3 {  h3 F4 S  Q& K6 M
I had quite a weekend planned (parties and a football game with my friends tomorrow afternoon), so I shrugged my shoulders and went on.
# {$ b8 P* a5 f6 n, Z; _+ M
. `" M# N7 L* p, I+ l
7 J7 T+ |. E. sAs I was walking, I saw a bunch of kids running toward him.
" _. [( s. {, u$ M5 p3 S) W: c5 z  A. W# k1 I& O

* `0 L" ?8 k$ T( O9 ]They ran at him, knocking all his books out of his arms and tripping him so he landed in the dirt.
) v- d: O0 r( W' `
6 @! N4 T' |$ G6 u
. z, }  `4 |) q- p8 L" AHis glasses went flying, and I saw them land in the grass about ten feet from him. 4 s5 \6 P3 m5 T! N$ |7 Q" y+ m5 [

/ [& A1 z3 X1 j9 U- a
  S0 g2 F; T/ q" \He looked up and I saw this terrible sadness in his eyes
7 m( o: b* T9 j) q( b% K
; R: ~3 t4 {2 F/ H+ O  M$ J+ N3 r! O' N/ m5 z* V: ~
My heart went out to him. So, I jogged over to him and as he crawled around looking for his glasses, and I saw a tear in his eye. 9 v' V6 R- l# c: A8 ^& L0 O) g
- l. i' {' R9 i) K5 J3 M! J1 o! u

0 q! e+ w3 W- }3 H* |" rAs I handed him his glasses, I said, "Those guys are jerks.
  ]3 K9 G6 k- C, m, D6 `2 u8 Z3 p6 |4 x, |3 Y$ V

- D8 N+ F! J# r, x3 ^They really should get lives
/ t4 }  y# J9 M/ P) a% M' j' T
  K5 T" x" Z7 H: ?8 K% k0 c* ]& O5 Y
" He looked at me and said, "Hey thanks!" " b3 K1 }  E5 T! g- U0 T

" W& V/ c, b9 r2 w* O, q
+ b8 J" T1 e# I- S- ?# ~( U. t% RThere was a big smile on his face.
' r# u! y9 q+ u8 p6 K5 R
% ?& U5 d- p4 B! _4 Y! V' g" y. @& S6 R: I  L$ T
It was one of those smiles that showed real gratitude.
5 G3 r. @- a1 R  ~# F5 f5 r" u6 T2 f  r
& W4 K$ @! e! }+ G( F5 i

0 }, H3 @  B/ j; @) KI helped him pick up his books, and asked him where he lived
9 B$ F7 }# z5 j6 r3 y, ]5 x
/ i4 t. l+ ^& c" u* n" V5 ^4 s" e8 D' N* c
As it turned out, he lived near me, so I asked him why I had never seen him before.
0 M/ r0 W; X! u+ `6 A+ y$ S& r: F  u& u, d4 k4 v2 Q* u& P
He said he had gone to private school before now.
8 x) ~# C9 M& [; ]  X' i- d7 |0 j! e4 u& ]6 i2 b/ U' y* g
I would have never hung out with a private school kid before. " A  U; s' h& t0 U* v: V

) \$ K' J4 a7 V9 U7 ~2 A, GWe talked all the way home, and I carried some of his books. 8 q  {) @0 f6 p. ]8 n
4 @* b* }3 f& |5 ~7 J, d

1 w& F4 m2 a- A$ F6 G" wHe turned out to be a pretty cool kid. # B+ y1 v% J6 ]5 J

/ i# z2 q2 O, R2 V2 v* `2 t7 m8 t  E
: R! T8 L, @# \; F+ VI asked him if he wanted to play a little football with my friends
$ ^' d4 m/ |- z1 F
& F) N0 b, x* d; v  N- yHe said yes. , j/ v3 b8 S7 D& |
1 L  C# o0 Q  [' c/ I& ~3 U

$ v8 u/ t6 y1 O' l9 {3 mWe hung out all weekend and the more I got to know Kyle, the more I liked him, and my friends thought the same of him. 0 x0 r* ^1 E. x# c% P
; e) B! Y/ Y5 I: _- ~# K

) J' P; q/ {1 M2 T* XMonday morning came, and there was Kyle with the huge stack of books again. ! D' ^% H* d2 }; x
) K9 Z. t  ]( T) V+ s. {  O0 W) W
I stopped him and said, "Boy, you are gonna really build some serious muscles with this pile of books everyday!
7 ~+ N4 {' l  w5 A6 h$ z" p- ?# z
: _+ q5 y+ q- b+ e; l. [* ]
& I. q" ]3 K, U& u' @+ A"He just laughed and handed me half the books. 8 t  _3 P0 e7 i$ O

/ i0 t$ m; k9 t( I" f4 {) R. K; z" \
Over the next four years, Kyle and I became best friends. % H6 t3 U8 _3 z3 t+ C1 @

( e2 i' E' S6 h( Z/ p/ D1 y- F0 H: {; \
When we were seniors, we began to think about college. 2 K4 J& [* {, x! K) p

$ n( M) A: p1 k' N% i1 Q3 V. G5 k3 k2 S
Kyle decided on Georgetown, and I 8 y  }8 X/ u4 a9 A/ P' ?
was going to Duke.
8 j7 F% B0 Y- {' T& I$ _/ p* t! B' h) }6 k) z
. |4 v3 y2 v3 b8 s& \6 r# {
I knew that we would always be friends, that the miles would never be a problem.
3 [  V( I: }; i- l! P  z: K- ^3 ]: o* F2 g
* M" P( w' ]' X, D$ N
He was going to be a doctor, and I was going for business on a football scholarship.
( b, o& C) F" H6 G+ q% m" Q
1 X' K: h' K; V) W* K; Z5 c
' G0 Y' M+ W5 z, Y- V: u" q5 R% Y1 _% a
% y4 @1 H3 j- h, A: n0 E/ m, s
Kyle was valedictorian of our class. 3 o2 s/ W/ @. p2 t4 n1 C* T
2 ]8 h: F# s6 E; V5 O+ x
I teased him all the time about being a nerd.

He had to prepare a speech for graduation.

1 q5 m% @4 o1 R0 A5 NI was so glad it wasn't me having to get up there and speak

Graduation day, I saw Kyle.

3 }' F6 p* E% t& k1 f
He looked great.
9 P. g  }' t, M9 y. p$ b" w
! F# g! a* Q6 E% W1 `
. j/ r  H6 v* R1 ~8 X/ tHe was one of those guys that really found himself during high school. $ F% }+ ~" g, d7 M+ _; G

) E3 O6 u3 f2 W2 {. c7 {$ R8 w; W# u% `8 j0 [7 L+ Z
He filled out and actually looked good in glasses. ; U# {3 c9 b# z0 N

He had more dates than I had and all the girls loved him. ' d" A9 w! T  u& q9 \

8 r9 O; k8 e' ^! WBoy, sometimes I was jealous. 7 ~0 s3 P2 o9 x$ t- ~

9 r: e' o% P5 E0 e4 ], ~# ]: M! t) qToday was one of those days. $ s& g; h* H2 s. k2 v8 P" E

& o8 H$ z+ C4 H/ v5 x, }' g: F8 W$ ^8 [! @3 D0 I
I could see that he was nervous about his speech.
, ^1 x8 c+ e% x( S( s. ^
4 a3 y5 x0 W+ @$ z. v8 V  D8 u5 E* q! B3 h8 J& `) f
So, I smacked him on the back and said, "Hey, big guy, you'll be great!" : E2 g+ _3 A, `

, D+ b6 i1 x& P! I2 {, k% _7 ~He looked at me with one of those looks (the really grateful one) and smiled. * r( N& p1 x  k) c% d  W
, b' R3 j* C( {  G' \" Y6 l' f) k
, M; M; c) b# {/ o  s
% v6 G$ U1 f9 m  S+ p4 U$ R
"Thanks," he said.

& d( O* S- m( ]; t& J0 FAs he started his speech, he cleared his throat, and began
% C! T8 n: i5 e- D( m1 I
9 z2 H9 j/ s4 a; y
( E* s$ x$ m  `4 {/ U2 ^4 b2 M1 G/ F! _8 B8 i! @! k' V* A" ]
9 S# [( X. E, i. N2 R5 f( m4 z4 [
"Graduation is a time to thank those who helped you make it through those tough years. * E: n  ~, @& x! h3 C- C
9 f7 i* e3 }4 E2 n: M
Your parents, your teachers, your siblings, maybe a coach...but mostly your friends... " d7 v; L, Y5 P& W" S
5 ^% F# ]5 Y& `; q5 N

5 p4 y, W! y8 Q0 c  S! j! R4 OI am here to tell all of you that being a friend to someone is the best gift you can give them. 6 H) H& J% k1 a7 A+ w) V0 r

, {! h3 W" b* B5 a4 `2 D% p+ U+ L5 j
I am going to tell you a story." 0 J/ o2 [1 H$ {8 |; W6 r0 O- O
6 ?1 m' }( J& ^

I just looked at my friend with disbelief as he told the story of the first day we met.
& o$ G* x. h2 N& d" g7 x8 W6 k, v. D3 U. f# h* E4 b
He had planned to kill himself over the weekend.   j9 k( s; T8 f" H( Y/ j

1 r" X+ X- _5 N8 j2 o: z6 q/ G# r' g. B
He talked of how he had cleaned out his locker so his Mom wouldn't have to do it later and was carrying his stuff home.
3 t2 f8 \! L, H1 x5 r1 S! Q; b: ~% R, V
4 j  ^, P  P, m
He looked hard at me and gave me a little smile. 1 y! \" h9 H0 B/ {6 H3 q; Z0 V

( J8 A- L" H# f" B4 Q"Thankfully, I was saved.
/ M7 A( C  h$ H: i$ [' ]+ O
# D% L; A  e$ O
& ]% {& d( h4 z" [" Z7 Q
1 ?: V* g5 s" d4 d! u( B9 H& J. TMy friend saved me from doing the unspeakable."
2 K( J/ D" {2 G. U: F( V( c9 M. \- @1 `1 x, I1 {
I heard the gasp go through the crowd as this handsome, popular boy told us all about his weakest moment. ( ~7 V& P1 o. {# n  x. x. U: _1 n
7 x% g# s5 c9 R" p& p  K) X
I saw his Mom and dad looking at me and smiling that same grateful smile.
% @) b/ j$ B3 r1 Q1 ~  V  h; H
& M8 n, t  B  K6 `6 H5 \Not until that moment did I realize its depth. 5 s5 c* ]% `8 X1 A" V9 X, V* |: }0 f  G' u
5 Z2 M; J0 e: ^% r/ ~9 n& b2 j
Never underestimate the power of your actions.
, p4 x7 m/ C9 R' T3 V) u1 ?- n6 Y0 l, p! v) L; D
With one small gesture you can change a person's life. & h6 {- B4 ^# O" p
. z4 X: w5 ^  S% s9 H( u& v
For better or for worse. ' x; E/ k' O/ x2 D4 i0 A) ~7 C
& q- z2 y) }0 y* {  t
God puts us all in each other's lives to impact one another in some way. 5 _0 P( L% P0 |) D

A nice guy...but the story it's not so touching...at least for me...6 R; W: F5 S6 `: Z& F2 E2 Y% A( R
