I guess,
% c) x9 z0 v+ P9 G1. pudding is the dessert after the main course/meal. Meat(such as steak)  is the main course/meal.
So, if you don't eat your main meal(chunky, difficult to digest)  first,  the waiter/waitress won't serve you the dessert.
the lyrics MIGHT mean that if you(as students don't study hard), you won't get anything sweet from the life.
